The Japanese dating strategy for client acquisition

If you still have shame about trying to make sales, then this one's for you.

You see, closed mouths don't get fed. It's an expression for a reason.

So hate it or love it, selling is going to have to become your bedfellow as a solopreneur, a freelancer, whatever it is you call yourself once you fly the corporate nest and kick your monthly salary addiction.

We'd all love it if we could wake up to chunky fat wads of cash-ola bursting from every pocket without explanation, but that's about as ridiculous as it is to sit there and wait for clients to fall into your lap.

They tell you that you gotta be what the Japanese dating scene calls a carnivore: aggressive, direct - an initiator. Eat what you kill. Outreach. Sales calls. Hunting. Yet the thought of sullying your name with scattergun copy-and-paste DMs just doesn't sit right.

"Just because I don't want to end up put on blast on the timeline for my attempts at winning business, it doesn't make me a passive, shy, Japanese herbivore!"

Don't worry, it just means you need to take a more… targeted approach.

Instead of spamming 50 people you couldn't care less if you worked with… how about getting in touch with someone you already know, like, and are sure you could help?

I have plenty of moots on the timeline whose lists I'm subscribed to, and I can ALWAYS identify something I could do to help make them richer. Reaching out to help a potential friend feels far less scummy than whoring yourself out to anyone who replies to a cookie-cutter cold DM blast.

Which is why I've been reaching out to you first, my loyal subscriber.

If you'd like to make more money from your list in 2026, email me the phrase "PRIVATE CLIENT", and I'll be in touch with how I can help your specific circumstances.

James Perkins

P.S. If you don't have a list, or you're in the early stages of growing yours… I want to make you more money, too. Put me in touch with someone with an established list that I end up working with, and I'll reward you handsomely.
