God complex emails that pass the Turing test
I watched Westworld recently. Late to the party? Perhaps.
The first two seasons are well worth a watch, particularly through the lens of a storyteller. And with the show approaching a decade old, I don't think I need to preface this with a spoiler warning…
There's a scene where Ford, the architect of Westworld, is accompanied by a robotic version of his childhood self while walking through the "theme park" he's created when they encounter a rattlesnake. The snake starts to strike at them, but Ford holds up his finger, and the snake freezes in mid-air.
The robo-boy asks, "How did you do that? Is it magic?"
To which Ford replies: "Everything in this world is magic, except to the magician."
To everyone else, the park is a place so real, so alive, it feels like magic. But Ford knows better. Every narrative, every detail, every outcome - painstakingly crafted to create the illusion.
Great copy doesn't happen by accident, either. It's designed word by word and line by line to capture attention, build trust, and produce an action. To your audience, it looks effortless, even magical. But you know it's all deliberate.
I won't spoil the many twists in the show, but if you're looking to write emails that pass the Turing test with your audience and border on the downright mystical?
