One quote from the Martian Overlord changes email marketer’s trajectory

I used to never stress about slow progress.

My thought process was that as long as you knew the difference between patience and inaction, you’d chosen the right direction and you were playing the long game - that a slow day or week, etc., couldn’t hurt you.

Sounds rational, right?

Wrong.

Patience is a virtue, sure, but it’s a virtue you cannot afford, my friend. Take it from someone who knows. There’s a reason you’ve been spinning your wheels for a while - and its name is Parkinson’s Law.

Whenever I think of Parkinson’s Law, I think of the story of Arnold Schwarzenegger cutting the bottom of his vests off to expose his abs.

I also think of seatbelt extenders on aeroplanes.

Work expands to the time you allocate for it.

If you think it’s normal to need to book two seats and a seatbelt extender to take a trip, you’ll see no issue with your weight. Meanwhile, the Terminator was always scanning for even a hint of imperfection.

We become what we allow.

Back to Mr Robotaxi.

He said:

“Stop being patient and start asking yourself, how do I accomplish my 10-year plan in 6 months? You will probably fail, but you will be a lot further ahead of the person who simply accepted it was going to take 10 years.”

I’m guilty of this, and I’m sure you are too. We know our goals are lofty and will take time. We know we must be patient and consistent. So we post about being in it for the long haul.

Meanwhile, the child of an emerald miner has caught a rocket the size of a skyscraper with some chopsticks, saved free speech, fathered a dozen children - all while running several world-changing and successful companies (and being top 20 in the world on Diablo).

So excuse me if I take his quote on getting shyt done seriously.

One way to get shyt done is to become a Musk-level grinder - allow all of your relationships, both romantic and otherwise, to fail, and your health to slip away until you resemble a pale ’tismo barrel creature.

Another way is to take advantage of the skills of others. You can borderline time travel by having the right guidance.
