Guerrilla advice on tripwires

You're setting up your tripwires all wrong.

And honestly, it's the equivalent of aiming a claymore at your own johnson. Sucks to hear, but sucks worse if I don't tell you and you blow your damn shvantz off.

Let me back up a sec.

The conventional wisdom is to have a tripwire product… AKA a low-ticket item that is a way into your product universe. Low stakes, so your customers' guard is lower. Many recommend pricing in impulse buy territory, which, as of the last time I checked, can be up to around 125 dollaroonies.

Makes sense, right? But there's a big problem with this, despite the logic.

Imagine you are your own ideal customer now. You stumble across a post on the timeline, check out the profile, click Lincoln bio, and sign up to the email list... And the first product they push to you is priced at $15. Now, don't get me wrong, that is easy to buy. It's inexpensive, and it's not as though I'm expecting this to change my life or as though I'm worried you're scamming me. Tripwire city.

Contrarian take, but I believe you should do the exact opposite.

From the jump, I propose pricing your shyt stupid high. The first time a new email subscriber sees the price of one of your products, I want them to wince.

Why?

Because if your subscribers see that you are expensive, their brain goes into overdrive. The connotations are all positive. Luxury, exclusive, rare… You're setting the expectation around your brand. You're not for everyone. You're difficult to access. Once you've achieved this positioning... And ONLY once you've achieved this positioning...

Should you consider offering a way for people to get access to you cheaper.

If everything is eye-wateringly expensive, many will eagerly read your daily email as their only access to you - because it's free and they can't afford your products or services. If you then drop a low-ticket or a sale price, it's finally a price they can afford. And because they've only been able to access the teasing sales emails rather than the full meat and tatoes... They'll bite your damn arm off to buy. Now, just deliver the value you say you can in your sales emails…

THAT'S A TRIPWIRE PRODUCT.

Start high, then come down. The other way around establishes you as cheap, so when you raise your price, you lose. Establish yourself as expensive, and offering a low price is doing your list a favour.

If you'd like to wage guerrilla war against your lack of sales and want simple yet powerful tweaks to your pricing strategies that can change everything...
