'Selling the unsellable' with the ex-Agora copy demon

In case you missed it... I was recently invited to join The Direct Response Guild, run by ex-Agora senior copywriter Thom Benny.

If you don't know what Agora Financial is...

FapGPT describes them as 'basically the NFL of direct response copywriting. Writers either learned from Agora alumni, wrote for Agora, or imitate Agora.'

Even the clanker knows to show respect.

Upon joining, I was set an initiation exercise that all Agora copywriters must endure... the 'selling the unsellable' task.

(You can read my attempt here if you haven't already.)

Here's Thom's feedback on my attempt... which honestly is valuable enough that I debated whether or not to share it.

Mega effort mate. Really enjoyed reading this one. Same feedback as Elmo re: headline being strong but not paying off.

There are lots of cool ideas in here:

Blue-collar empires really jumps out at me. Puts me in the Gary Halbert frame of mind. Pure old-school biz opp.

Lukewarm calling.

The anti-algo positioning.

BUT - and there's always a but - many ideas competing for attention will always lose to ONE idea powerfully expressed.

I also think you buried your opening line: 'This is a book filled with money.'

All this being said, I rate this effort pretty highly. Especially because I can see how a few key upgrades would make your second draft way stronger. Sometimes we can look at first drafts and not see a path forward at all - which is defo not the case here.

Great stuff.

And, I just read your Hypernormalization essay on your website. Really enjoyed it.

Look forward to speaking soon :)

Thom

Thom's first major launch promo for Agora printed $2.7 million (net) in just two weeks. So when he gives me personalised feedback on my copy...

You can be daymn sure I'm all ears.
