The runner and the blind spot

So I've got a buddy who loves running.

Trails, roads, races. The works. It's a big part of his identity - a recognisable element of his "personal brand."

He has all the gear. He's consistent, hardworking, and publicly identifies himself as a runner. People know him as one, too. On paper, he is doing absolutely everything right, and you'd think with this level of dedication, he'd be a regular Kipchoge.

But he has a blind spot - a fatal flaw.

He, for the life of him, cannot see that the only way to improve at the thing he loves...

Is to lose some damn weight.

Will anyone around him tell him that? You bet your sweet ass they won't.

(Aside from yours gloomily, but unfortunately, my blunt reputation is sometimes mistaken for sarcasm.)

Sometimes it's staring you in the face. And you can't see it because you don't have the eyes to see. You are bound by the limits your mind imposes as facts.

I'm me... I'm running as hard as I can… why no improvement?

The good news? Usually, all it takes is a trained eye to point out the bottleneck, and you're off to the races.

If you want your copy bottleneck eyed (not like that, cheeky)...
